PlushCare is a virtual primary care practice, now part of Accolade, that treats weight management alongside general medical care. Rather than running its own captive pharmacy, PlushCare works like a doctor's office: a board-certified physician evaluates you, and any prescription is sent to the pharmacy you choose.
That structure is the whole point of PlushCare. Because it bills insurance and writes to outside pharmacies, it is one of the few telehealth options where a brand-name GLP-1 can land on your plan's formulary at a copay instead of a cash price. If your employer plan covers Wegovy or Zepbound, this is a materially different economic model from the flat-fee compounding platforms.
The trade-off is that PlushCare does not control your medication cost. The membership buys you access to the clinician and the platform; what you pay at the pharmacy counter is between you, your plan and the manufacturer.
PlushCare focuses on FDA-approved, brand-name GLP-1 medications dispensed by licensed retail or mail-order pharmacies. Its published materials state that compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved and are only considered where federal and state law permits.
Book an appointment with a board-certified physician, usually available same day. Visits are live video appointments rather than an asynchronous questionnaire, which is unusual in this category.
Adults evaluated against standard GLP-1 criteria: a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related condition. Final eligibility is the physician's clinical decision.
Board-certified physicians licensed in all 50 states. Because PlushCare is a primary care practice, you can keep seeing the same physician for unrelated care and refills.
Labs may be ordered at the physician's discretion and are run through outside laboratories, billed separately or to insurance. Lab work is not bundled into the membership.
No in-house pharmacy. Prescriptions are routed to the retail or mail-order pharmacy of your choice, so fulfillment, stocking and price all depend on that pharmacy.
Determined by your chosen pharmacy. Local pickup and mail-order are both possible; PlushCare does not ship medication itself.
In-app messaging with the care team, an Rx price finder for comparing pharmacy prices, and prescription renewals through the app.
$19.99 per month, or $149 per year. U.S. News reports the first month is offered free.
Not charged by PlushCare. You pay your pharmacy directly, so cost depends on your insurance, deductible and any manufacturer savings program.
Membership is month-to-month and can be cancelled through the account settings. Cancel before your renewal date to avoid the next charge.
No published blanket refund policy for membership fees. Medication refunds are governed by your dispensing pharmacy, which generally cannot accept returns on prescriptions.
Yes. PlushCare accepts most major insurance plans for visits and is in-network with many national insurers. This is its main differentiator.
Membership fees and visit costs are generally HSA/FSA eligible as medical expenses. Weight-loss medication reimbursement usually requires a Letter of Medical Necessity — see our HSA/FSA guide.

People with commercial insurance that covers weight-management medication, and anyone who specifically wants FDA-approved brand-name GLP-1s from a physician-led practice rather than a compounding platform.
If you have no coverage for weight-loss drugs, PlushCare is likely to be one of the more expensive routes, because you pay both the membership and the full cash price of a brand-name medication. It is also not a fit if you want medication mailed to you as part of one bundled fee.
Also brand-name only, but bundles a negotiated cash medication price with the membership
Brand-name GLP-1s with insurance billing plus in-house Amazon Pharmacy fulfillment
Similar marketplace model with pay-per-visit pricing and prescriptions to your own pharmacy
Yes. PlushCare accepts most major insurance plans and is in-network with many national insurers, which is unusual among GLP-1 telehealth platforms. Insurance applies to the visit; whether it covers the medication itself depends on your plan's formulary and any prior authorization requirement.
The membership is $19.99 per month or $149 per year, per PlushCare's How It Works page. Forbes Health reports self-pay provider visits from $129. Medication is not included in either figure — you pay your pharmacy separately.
PlushCare centers on FDA-approved brand-name GLP-1s. Its published materials note that compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved and are only handled in line with federal and state law. Following the end of the FDA shortage-related compounding allowances, brand-name products are the realistic path here.
PlushCare is an established virtual primary care practice staffed by board-certified physicians and is part of Accolade, a publicly traded health benefits company. It is a licensed medical practice, not a compounding reseller.
PlushCare does not operate its own pharmacy. Your physician sends the prescription to the retail or mail-order pharmacy you nominate, so fulfillment and price come from that pharmacy.
Yes. The membership is month-to-month and can be cancelled in your account settings. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid being billed for the following month.
